Maintenance for Your New Lawn

Having a new lawn may seem like a straightforward task, however, it requires a significant amount of care and understanding to maintain its health and aesthetics in the long run. The types of grass, watering essentials, mowing, fertilisation, seasonal care, and the importance of regular maintenance are all key factors of lawn maintenance that shouldn’t be dismissed.

Picture this. You’ve finally finished installing that glorious green lawn – a vibrant carpet of lush, healthy grass that seems to beckon a future filled with cheerful picnics, boisterous sports games, and laid-back Sunday barbecues.

Hold your horses, though! Before you venture forth onto this tempting new turf, let’s share some important wisdom about ensuring that your fresh sown field develops into the lawn of your dreams.

Resist the Temptation to Trample for 3-4 Weeks

For the love of your lawn, we plead with you – it is important to show restraint for at least 3-4 weeks post-installation. While the temptation to break out the deck chairs or start that competitive sports game might be strong, resist the urge to trample on your new lawn, especially when wet. Give those gentle green blades some time to bed in and put down strong, resilient roots.

Daily hydration is key to lush, healthy lawn growth.

In the first couple of weeks, we highly recommend that you water your lawn as much as possible. As for anything, the early stages are always the most crucial and it is essential to water your lawn every day to ensure your fresh field stays delightfully damp until the roots have established.

While it might seem like you’re spoiling your lawn with an overdose of hydration, the truth is, that being simply thirsty will foster firm growth. Pay attention to the climate, though with the task being to discern just the right moisture balance – preventing your turf from parching, without causing a swamp-like saturation.

Our Tips and Tricks for Nurturing and Growing a Gorgeous Green Lawn

Onto grass cutting! While you might be eager to give your burgeoning meadow its first trim, wait till it reaches a height of about 75mm (3 inches). Just nick off the tips at first, maintaining, at minimum, three-quarters of the leaf length. Post the premiere trim, it’s snip-snip every 5 days or so from there until your lawn meets your requirements!

Patience is a virtue when it comes to feeding your fresh lawn. No need to fuss about nourishing it during the initial month. When your lawn begins to appear as more of an adolescent grassland, you can commence a standard grass care routine.

And there you have it! Here are some of our simple, yet essential pointers to give your new lawn a thriving start in life. Following these guidelines can ensure that your newly planted expanse evolves from fresh sod into a grand and gorgeous green.
